David Letterman Net Worth = $400 Million

David Letterman was born in April of 1947 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Letterman is a late-night American comedian and former talk show host. He has a net worth estimated to be around $400 million.

Letterman worked on Ball State's student-run station, WBST, as an announcer and newscaster. He was recognized on-air for his unpredictable behavior and casual humor, such as announcing the forecast for made-up cities on occasion. In 1975 his friends and relatives convinced him to move to Los Angeles and become a comedy writer.

He started performing stand-up at The Comedy Store there. Through stand-up, he made several friends, and by 1978 he was writing and making small guest spots for numerous small plays, television shows, and game shows. He was screen checked for the title role of "Airplane!" in the 1980s, but the part eventually went to Robert Hays.

His style of sarcasm and dry humor soon caught the attention of talent scouts for "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson," and he quickly became Carson's favorite comedian and a regular guest on the show. Letterman has often regarded Carson as the greatest impact on his life.

Letterman declared his retirement April 2014 and on May 20, 2015 aired his final episode. 13.76 million viewers watched the final show. Stephen Colbert had been declared to replace Letterman. In total, Letterman hosted 6,080 Late Night and Late Show shows. As the longest-served late-night talk show host in American TV history.

Letterman's shows received unprecedented success and critical praise, including 67 nominations for the Emmy Award, and 12 late-night wins in his first 20 years

Quotes - David Letterman Net Worth and Key Habits

"People say New Yorkers can't get along. Not true. I saw two New Yorkers, strangers, sharing a cab. One guy took the tires and the radio; the other guy took the engine. " -David Letterman

A lot of folks are still demanding more evidence before they consider Iraq a threat. For example, France wants more evidence. And you know I'm thinking, the last time France wanted more evidence they rolled right through Paris with the German flag." -David Letterman

"There's only one requirement of any of us, and that is to be courageous. Because courage, as you might know, defines all other human behavior. And, I believe - because I've done a little of this myself - pretending to be courageous is just as good as the real thing." -David Letterman

"Why we are here: To tremble at the terrible beauty of the stars, to shed a tear at the perfection of Beethoven’s symphonies, and to crack a cold one now and then." -David Letterman

"You think an explosion has taken place and you’re looking at the shards and you say, ‘Well, can we put this back together?’ And by God, maybe you can put it back together. And maybe it won’t be the same, but maybe it will be different, and maybe it can even be better in a different way." -David Letterman

David Letterman Net Worth and Key Habits

Habit #1 - Keep Doing Good

Letterman believes in the philosophy of doing good for others because that is what brings happiness to everyone and makes the world better. Comedy has always been a form of service to Letterman. He knows that life can be hard and a good laugh at the right time can make a huge difference in someones day.

Do good for those who are incapable of doing that for themselves. Life is successful only when you know that because of your life, someone else was much better off. That is a great feeling and you sleep easy knowing that you made a difference.

Habit #2 - Stay Humble

David once quoted saying“I don’t mind being accused of being a bad comedian and I don’t even mind being accused of being a bad talk-show host, but I never want to be accused of being an arrogant, pompous showbiz asshole”. He is a humble man and accepts anything said about him or his hosting or even his comedy but never wanted to be called arrogant or a proud showbiz personality.

You can't control what other people say about you. What you can do is control how you behave and the character you uphold. The thing about rising to the top is that you can never get too high to fall. Everyone is capable of falling so remain humble because you never know when you will have to pay a visit to the bottom.

Habit #3 - Be Courageous

David has shown a lot of courage as a comedian and late-night host. To be funny you have to be willing to push the boundaries and make people a bit uncomfortable. The problem is that sometimes you go too far and it takes courage to know that you may upset people or make them dislike you. It takes courage to get no laughs and still keep trying. Letterman did the show over 6,000 times and he kept showing up and making jokes.

Have the courage to put your gift out there for the world. Too many people forget that their gift will light the pathway forward. It takes courage to risk being humiliated or hated for trying to use your gift. When you give your all and its still not enough, you may feel like quitting, but the best thing you can do is keep moving forward in your courage.
