Patti started his music career ad s teenager by forming a singing group with other ladies. They called the group "The Blue Belles" and joined with Newton and later Atlantic Records in the 1960s. Patti and her partners changed the group's name to "LaBelle" in 1970 and signed a recording contract with Warner Bros.

The group released "Lady Marmalade" (1973) after signing with RCA Records. They went ahead to release ten albums and over 30 singles. LaBelle went solo after much success with the group. She has released 18 albums as a solo artist and about 50 singles. Most of her singles and albums were commercially successful and earned her many awards.
