When I would warm up for track meets my two favorite songs were hustlin by Rick Ross and Hustle Hard by Ace Hood. There was something about the way they talked about the hustle that could get me pumped to do anything. Now the motto I live by is stay humble and hustle hard.

Humility is a funny thing because the second you think you have it you have lost it. You think you have it and it slips throw your fingers. Then you have to hunt it down again; The hustle always finds a way to humble you anyway. You lose your job, the dream doesn't take off, or she breaks up with you, and you get left high and dry by life itself.

When you look at anyone successful, they are always hungry to learn. They recognize they don't know everything and they get help.

Why Stay Humble and Hustle Hard?

The reason I choose this as my motto because it reminds you that you're never as good as you think you are. The second you think you have made it you stop doing the things that got you to that position.

  • A businessman stops making as many calls.

  • Husbands stop writing her special notes

  • The artist is not as hungry to make inspiring music

  • Athletes stop putting in extra work in the gym

The exciting thing about the journey is that we make it all about the destination. We tell ourselves that if we could make it to the other side, we would have everything we want. The money, fame, cars or whatever you think would make you happy.

The truth is that you need to stay humble and hustle hard because it's not about you. It's about the people who have supported you and using the talents God has blessed you with. You push hard because you don't want to die and take an ounce of skill with you. To set yourself up on the 30 day success formula, the hustle is a must.

Stay Humble and Hustle Hard - What Does Humility Look Like?

The bible says the Meek will inherit the earth. The problem is most people don't understand what it means to be humble. When people think of a humble person, they think of a shy person who never takes credit for anything. That is not what true humility is.

Humility is recognizing that you can't reach your dreams and mission without help. It realizes how much people have helped you out as you have grown. One of the best things that ever happened to my humility was getting fired. My wife was pregnant at the time, and it created some hard times.

I had to ask my mom, my father in law, my best friends, and my brother in law for money. I had to think through who would help me out. It was hard to have to do that because it forced me to let go of the image of myself and that I could get it done alone. I could not! I am the farthest thing from a self-made man.

The Humble is Hungry to Learn

When you look at anyone successful, they are always hungry to learn. They recognize they don't know everything and they get help. Jeff Bezos held on tight to the version of Made in America made by Sam Walton. He understood that someone came before him with a lot of wisdom. He was willing to humble himself and get that knowledge.

The same is to be said of Michael Jordan. He was humble enough to realize that he did not know everything about Basketball. His college coach Dean Smith and NBA coach Phil Jackson were mentors. Both commended MJ for his ability to listen. Steve Kerr said the same thing about being teammates with MJ. When MJ trusted you, he would listen to everything you said.

Where do you land? Are you humble enough to want to learn? Do you act humble when you get interviewed by giving credit to others? Pure arrogance is shown when you are not willing to listen to others and learn.

Only You Know The Truth

The great thing about this motto is that only you can be the judge of how well it's being upheld. No one can stay humble and hustle hard for you. You have to want to do it, and if you are not excited to do it, it shows that you are losing some of that humility.

If this is something that matters, you will find a way to show up for this motto even if others are trashing your name and saying that you are cocky or that you are lazy. Only you know the truth. Others can think you are the hardest working person, but only you know the truth.

Don't Break The Stay Humble and Hustle Hard Cycle

When you live up the motto, and you stay humble and hustle hard, you end up creating a dangerously good cycle. When you hustle hard, you eventually start to see results. These results build your confidence, and you begin to get comfortable.

Then something happens that eventually humbles you. Maybe when you start feeling good, you lose a big client, or your boss hits you with a negative review. When these moments bring you back down the earth, the key is to respond right. If you react by getting mad and just calling others idiots, you are losing your chance to get better.

Maybe you did not prepare or have given a half-ass effort. Do everything you can to make sure you are NOT the weak link. The only way to do this is to start to hustle hard again and build confidence and success back.
